Ataraxia Dutch was a fine example of what a Boerboel should be. A descendant of Piona Klonkie and closely tied to the Ysterberg lines, he carried a blend of genetics that balanced strength, temperament, and functionality. During his time with me, Dutch stood out not just for his impressive physical traits but also for his calm and loving demeanor, which made him a standout dog in every sense.
Dutch’s Lineage
Dutch’s pedigree brought together some of the best Boerboel bloodlines. His father, Al Asaad Grindle, carried the heritage of Grassland, Nostras, Piona, Smit, and Ysterberg—lines that laid the foundation for the modern Boerboel. His mother, Ataraxia Bunny, was the daughter of Ataraxia Snowy and a great-granddaughter of Kema Brutus. This combination of genetics ensured Dutch had both the physical and temperamental traits to represent the breed at its best.
Dutch’s qualities shone through in the offspring he sired. His pairing with Saharah was a highlight, producing Al Aseels Sasha (formerly Bullenbijters Sasha), Rosie’s mother. This breeding demonstrated the compatibility of the Piona and Ysterberg lines, blending the optimal temperament and functional traits that Dutch represented.
Dutch was a well-balanced dog in both structure and character.
Physical Features: Dutch had excellent bone density. a strong and functional frame, and a unique headsl with good depth. He moved with power and grace, commanding attention wherever he went.
Temperament: Despite his size, Dutch was calm, gentle, and easy to handle. He brought a sense of security without being overbearing, striking the right balance between confidence and reliability.
While Dutch is no longer with us, his impact remains. His genetics, temperament, and physical traits have left a mark on the breed, contributing to its development in a positive way. Dogs like Dutch remind us of what careful, intentional breeding can achieve: Boerboels that honor their heritage while improving for the future.
Ataraxia Dutch was not just a great Boerboel—he was a solid example of the breed’s potential, a dog whose legacy continues through his offspring and the lives he touched.
